SWABI: June 25, 2024 – 28th Convocation at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology

The Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology celebrated its 28th convocation on June 25, 2024. The event, graced by the presence of Faisal Karim Kundi, Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, highlighted the importance of breakthroughs in science and technology for Pakistan’s economic transformation. The Governor served as the chief guest for the occasion.

Engr. Salim Saifullah Khan, President of the Society for the Promotion of Engineering Sciences and Technology in Pakistan (SOPREST), attended the convocation virtually. Other notable attendees included Shakil Durrani, Executive Director of SOPREST, vice-chancellors from various universities, students’ parents, federal and provincial officials, and the graduating students.

A total of 495 students were awarded degrees, comprising 415 BS, 68 MS, and 12 PhD graduates from various engineering and management sciences disciplines. Governor Faisal Karim Kundi emphasized the potential for competent graduates to thrive in the national and international freelancing markets, thanks to initiatives like digital skills training in Pakistan. He stressed the significance of adapting to technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning to meet economic goals amid the fifth industrial revolution.

Addressing global challenges like climate change, food shortages, and energy crises, the Governor underscored the need for innovation in science and technology. He highlighted the importance of advanced problem-solving skills to mitigate these issues.

Governor Kundi also remarked on the critical crossroads Pakistan faces regarding economic development and the transformative impact of digital tools and online learning platforms on education. He stressed the necessity of ensuring contemporary education for all youth.

He praised the late Ghulam Ishaq Khan, the founder of GIK Institute, acknowledging the institution’s unique status among higher education centers in the country. He congratulated the graduates, encouraging them to view this convocation as the beginning of their journey towards success.

Shakil Durrani reflected on the inception of GIK Institute, crediting the visionary leadership and relentless efforts of Ghulam Ishaq Khan for establishing this center of excellence in engineering education.

Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid, Rector of GIK Institute, announced plans to celebrate 31 years of excellence in December, with participation from alumni worldwide and academicians from across the country.

Prof. Dr. Syed Muhammad Hasan Zaidi, Pro-Rector Academics, detailed the institute’s academic activities, industry linkages, research projects, co-curricular activities, and future programs.
